The Nordic Academy Leader Course is a six-hour course for people who have either completed Proficiency workshop or have been working in the fitness/health industry and schools such as personal trainers, fitness instructors, exercise physiologist, physiotherapists, podiatrists, nurses, school physical education (PE) teachers, etc.

Aim of this course is to produce high quality Nordic Walking Leaders equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to benefit their clients, students or patients and wanting to make Nordic Walking program a success in their areas/communities.

Pre-requisites for Participation

Participants need to submit proof of either Certificate of Achievement (Proficiency) or working in the fitness industry, health industry or School of Physical Education (SPE).

 

Course outline

9.00am – 11.00am

          * Overview of NW - history and health benefits

          * Warm up and mobilization exercises

          * Acquiring the basic NW technique

          * Guided Nordic Walking practice

          * Correction exercises for common technique mistakes

          * Stretching exercises for NW

  12.00pm – 3.00pm

* Health and fitness benefits explained

* Reviewing basic technique and how to guide others

* Videotape analysis and review of techniques

* Equipment – poles, shoes, accessories

* Promoting of NW to your potential groups

* Basic fitness principle

* Planning of a group walk (safety issues, what to wear etc)
